Travel Vaccinations and Medications

Before travelling out of the UK it is important to check which vaccines you may need for travel to the country you are going to.

The GP surgery does not perform a travel planning appointment, you will need to have a consultation at a specialist travel centre/helpline.  They will complete a risk assessment to determine which vaccines are needed to travel safely.  For example Masta – online consultation/telephone appointment, Boots Pharmacy.

For this appointment you will need your vaccination history which can be found using the online access to you GP record(Patient Access or NHS App).

If you need to request your vaccination record from Kirkoswald Surgery please complete an E-consult (which can be found on Kirkoswald Surgery website) and your vaccination record will then be emailed to you, using the email address on your GP record.

Please allow a minimum of 48 hours for this to be completed.

If recommended by the travel clinic, we can provide the following vaccinations free on the NHS to travellers:

  • Twinrix (Hepatitis A/B), Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio (DTP), Typhoid and Revaxis

Appointments for the above vaccines are only available if you have been advised they are required by a travel clinic. Please give at least 4 weeks’ notice when booking an appointment with the practice nurse. You must bring the travel clinic documentation with you and the nurse will check eligibility before administering the vaccine.

Please note that appointments for the above vaccines are not available on the day or at short notice as all vaccines have to be ordered in for each patient.

Any other vaccinations required and travel health advice should be provided by the travel clinic.
